Travis Macfarlane

Lighting Designer/ Photographer

Travis Macfarlane is one of Australia’s most in-demand lighting creatives. 
 

A graduate of the esteemed Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, where he worked closely with respected West End designer Mark Howett, He was the first person in Australia to remount Serenade by Balanchine for The New York City Ballet and recently worked with Mr Gavin Swift as assistant lighting designer on Crazy For You. 
 

His list of credits boasts major events and productions like the TV Week Logie Awards, Sunset Boulevard, Fiddler on the Roof, The Boy From Oz and Rent and stars like Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston and Celine Dion. 
Travis began his career more than two decades ago, as a technician for the Marriner Theatres in Melbourne during the late ‘90s, working on some of their biggest theatrical shows. 

 

He then moved to Melbourne’s Crown Palladium Ballroom as the resident lighting director. There he worked for clients including the Seven and Nine Networks, The Spring Racing Carnival, AFL, Disney, The Starlight Foundation and Sony Music as well as creating lighting for international and Australian artists who performed at the venue. 
He has also put his magic touch on the famous Myer and David Jones Christmas Windows for Stage One Promotions. 
Travis has a string of awards to his credit and has designed some of Australia’s most memorable productions including Whisky on the Breath of a Drunk You Love; Distant Lights From Dark Places; BABY The Musical; Stones In His Pockets; Wolf Lullaby; The Talented Mr Ripley; The Producers; Andrew Lloyd Webber’s CATS; The Full Monty; The Prodigal Son; Catharsis for 4D Global (USA); Last Man Standing (Debra Byrne and Nick Barker); Dirty Pretty Songs - Virginia Gay; West Side Story; Fidelio and La Boheme (Melbourne Opera); Henry IV; Jason Byrne (Australian Tour), Meow Meow (Australian Tour); Outside In for LINK Dance Company and The Laramie Project. 

 

Travis also stepped across into production management and worked for a number of Australia’s most recognisable festivals including David Williamson’s Noosa Long Weekend Festival; The Melbourne International Comedy Festival and The Melbourne Festival. 
 

More recently Travis has been working as a freelance lighting designer and has designed for Ballet LAB – Melbourne; Songs from an Unmade Bed – Imprint Theatricals; Vincent – LissaJane Dance; A Lie In The Mind – The Grange Melbourne; Scapegoat – The Sally Collective; Loving Repeating – Vic Theatre Company. 
 

Travis’ decades long experience, gained from working with major companies throughout Australia, puts him in an enviable position as one of the most desirable lighting designers in the country.
