Dance is here to improve our lives, not detract from it.
I believe dance has a powerful place in this world. The chance to communicate without any form of language and speech, that can be interpreted entirely from the heart. We use movement to connect with one another from a common ground, allowing us to express ourselves and also reciprocate that expression.
It is Pina Bausch who was once said “To understand what I am saying, you have to believe that dance is something other than technique. We forget where the movements come from. They are born from life. When you create a new work, the point of departure must be contemporary life -- not existing forms of dance.” ― Pina Bausch
And she was right it is born from life! Whatever we do, whether it is on a stage, in a nightclub, or just in your own living room, the desire to move our body comes from a passion for life and our want to revel in that experience. We crave something that can not be seen but is entirely other worldly.
I ask you to remember this passion and to love this entirely instinctual need. Remove the technique and convention and what you have left is the human desire to connect.
